The Electricity Company of Ghana in the Volta Region has expressed its surprise at the level at which illegal power connections which have never been a major challenge for the company is rapidly growing in the Volta Region.
According to the General Manager, Ing. Delali Oklu, a recent excercise carried out in the regional capital, Ho has revealed a shocking report of activities of some individuals who are connecting power outside the metering system for use.
Though he did not disclose further details of the excercise, Ing. Oklu maintained that his men are ready to confront the situation with all of its internal mechanisms.
He is therefore appealing to the public to volunteer information to arrest of such power thieves for handsome rewards.
“This region is not noted for a lot of illegalities. But surprisingly we did a small excercise in Ho here monitoring our prepaid metres and we are uncovering such illegalities that are not common here. Not known to the people of this region.
Once you are bypassing the supplier and not paying for the energy you are using, [it] means that the pressure is on those of us paying to be forced to pay more. That we should pay in terms of tarrifs.
So its our own collective interest to ensure that these illegalities are reduced to the bearest minimum. We have an incentive for those who report to us about such illegalities”
Ing. Oklu made this known Wednesday, December 19, 2019 in an interaction with the media in Ho.
