The senior national team, the Black Stars of Ghana were held to a 2-2 drawn game when they opened their AFCON 2019 campaign at the Ismailia Stadium in the group F fixture against the Squirrels of Benin.
The Squirrels opened the score line in the 2nd minute of the game through Mickael Poté. The Black Stars came back into the game through skipper Andre Dede Ayew’s strike in the 10th minute. The Stars took the lead with Jordan Ayew’s 42nd minute strike to end the first half with a 2-1 win.
The woes of the stars began when defender John Boye picked a second yellow card in the 55th minute, thus seeing him off the pitch and reducing the AFCON favorites to 10 men.
Mickael Poté slotted in his second goal of the day.
Earlier in group F, Cameroon defeated Guinea Bissau 2-0.
The 4-time African champions on Saturday, June 29 take on the defending champions Cameroon in their second game at 5:00pm.
