It all started in 1995 when some innovative and daring students of Ho Polytechnic (now Ho Technical University) tried their hands at an invention, resulting in simple campus radio equipment with a wireless radio transmitter which could only transmit within 200m radius.
This innovation aroused the interest of the SRC and Polytechnic Administration, who saw an opportunity to share the vision with stakeholders.
On 26th February,1996, the SRC in conjunction with the Polytechnic Administration applied to Ghana Frequency Registration and Control Board(now National Communications Authority) at the Office of the President for Frequency Band Allocation. However, it was not until 29th April,1996 that a formal approval (Frequency Registration and Control) was granted to the Polytechnic to operate as FM Radio Station.
On 19th July,1996 Volta Premier was commissioned and started transmitting on the Frequency, 98.1MHz; Making it the first radio station in the then Volta Region.
We have trained many professionals, built brands, developed contents and have partnered established media houses to bring information to the doorstep of our people.
Details of the celebration will be out in due time.
