Residents of the Volta Region are divided over the presence of security personnel in some border towns of the Region.Whilst the biggest minority party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) considers the operations of the security agencies as attempts to intimidate eligible voters not to register for the ongoing voter registration exercise, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ho West Districts has lauded the operatives and claims it is in the best interest of citizens.
Addressing the press in the district capital, Dzolokpuita Friday July 10, 2020, Constituency Director of Communications, Stephen Akpabli says residents have welcomed the presence of the security services and are always ready to give out information on people who may want to illegally enter the constituency during this COVID-19 era.
According to Akpabli, though the operations may seem uncomfortable, it is in the best interest of residents to ensure that COVID-19 spread is controlled
“Contrary to the alarming picture being created by the NDC, Holuta is enjoying the presence of the Security Officers in the area. It is however, observed that some town folks voluntarily give out information on recalcitrant people who are aiding travelers into the country through unapproved routes. Much as interrogation of such persons by the Security Personnel may look uncomfortable, it is in the interest of the communities to stay healthy and safe.”
He also accused the MP of the area, Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah of raising false alarm on the recent developments in Holuta where it was rumoured that the military invaded homes to establish the identity of some residents
